Dr. Tookey's Computer Studies Page
Eureka's Computer Studies offers students a major with three tracks and three minors. The advent of the computer is having a significant impact on daily lives and on society. As a result, Computer Studies has numerous applications. The Computer Studies major at Eureka College is a blend of computer science and one of three application areas of programming, business or arts. The purpose of these three computer science tracks is to prepare graduates for leadership roles in the use of computer technology in service to society. In all three tracks we take a problem solving approach. This is not about memorization, or about learning whatever software or hardware is in style. Whichever path you choose, you'll acquire the knowledge, the analytical thinking and observation skills, and the hands-on experience you'll need to adapt to the ever-changing conditions in an information technology career.
CSC 135 is the proper introductory course for most students. CSC 105 and CSC 110 do not have a prerequisite, and are attractive to non-majors as well as majors.(Many ask why CSC 135 is offered in the Spring. That allows students to take 105 or 110, and possibly a math class, in the Fall to get warmed up. It also allows 165/265 to be a fall/spring sequence in the next year.)
