Vol. l contains memoirs dating from the foundation of the academy in 1780 to the end of the year 1783.

No memoirs in quarto were published 1874-1881. Vol.10, no.3 (embryology of the Ctenophora by Alexander Agassix) was printed in August 1874, but was not distributed by the author. When publication was resumed in 1881, the paper of Mr. Agassix was overlooked, its paging being duplicated and the volume completed and distributed without it. In 1885 it was distributed as a supplement to v-10, pt.2, together with a new table of contents. cf. "Note" following table of contents of @. IO, pt.2.

Vol.11, pt.1, "Centennial volume", includes full list of officers and members of the academy, 1780-1881.

This publication consisted of scholarly papers, many accompanied by illustrations and diagrams, on a variety of scientific topics, including anthropology, astronomy, math, biology, and bacteriology, as well as some articles on languages and other subjects, and proceedings of the Academy. A series on the fish of Massachusetts ran through many issues.
