Edited by Mrs. D.L. Child, this small children's periodical was designed "for the instruction and amusement of youth." The majority of articles were for the purpose of instructing, either morally or otherwise and many were in the form of conversations. Among the contents were poetry, stories, dramas, biography, book reviews, and articles on geography, botany, birds, animals, and other science topics. Illustrations and riddles provided entertainment for the reader.
